Hannah Wood- @Brendan, that is a great question, because I was asking myself the same thing. Mala seems to have not gone through a whole lot compared to Vladek. I feel as though they need each other for certain things. Mala always asks for money, which Vladek has, and Vladek needs help with his lifestyle, which Mala can help with. Even though they may not get along half the time, they will always have each others help.
@mmoritz- on page 80, the pictures show the true meaning of violence. By looking at these pictures it helps me relate better with the story by showing, not telling, what really happened with the Jews. Especially the first picture on the page; I never realized that the Nazi's did that to the Jews.
